Transformation Tuesday with Lettie Barnett

Ahh Lettie… a one treat meal a week is a fabulous way to keep you motivated and it is definitely something to look forward too! I can be a little guilty of having more than one treat meal a week but it is a fabulous concept that I can see works wonders. lettie b4 n afer

How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?

I am 23 years old. I have been bigger than my friends since I can remember. When I was about 19 something triggered in me and I realised I had to make a change. I joined a gym and signed up with a PT and that's where it started. Over two years of ups and downs with the gym and dieting I lost 30kg. I then became a little unhealthily obsessed with weight loss and lost another 5kg but went about it all the wrong way and it was completely unsustainable, so I put the weight back on. 6 months ago, I noticed all my work uniforms were starting to get tight and I didn't like how I looked in photos. So I started Kayla Itsines bikini body guide and haven't looked back since. I finally have a balance in my life and love working out and keeping healthy! My weight loss to date is 36kg.

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?

As a child we were very healthy at home, I had rye bread sandwiches before they were cool and used to get teased about my cut up carrot and celery! But then I went to boarding school and discovered white bread and deep fried everything. Through uni it was cheaper to buy 2 minute noodles than healthy options and I piled weight on. As an adult I would often whinge about the cost of healthy eating, one night a very good friend of mine said to me "it is expensive, but my health is my priority". Those words really hit home with me and I've been eating clean healthy food ever since.

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?

I don't play any sport, I think I've always been a bit too uncoordinated! I enjoy watching rugby, but mostly for the cute boys!

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?

I love exercising, it makes me feel so good. My friends and family mean the world to me, I'm a very social person and love being around people, especially those I love. I also have a secret addiction to shopping, I can window shop for hours!

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?

I don't think I can give specific details! But basically, I was out drinking at a pub and a boy said something truly degrading towards me and basically called me a "fatty" amongst other things. I didn't want to be that girl anymore, so I joined the gym the next day.

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?

I want to maintain this new healthy lifestyle that I have. I love the balance that I've found and want to prove that I can keep it up. I plan to tone my body a lot more, but realise its slow going and don't expect anything overnight!

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?

When it comes to eating, I have found that meal prep is key. I do shift work so I have found it especially useful. I only eat the meals and snacks that I have prepared. I don't keep bad food in the house, that way I don't eat it. And I have a treat meal every week. I don't like to call it a cheat because I think that word has a negative connotation. My treat meal is earned each week from all my hard work and I say no to things during the week because I know I have my treat meal to look forward to. Previously I wouldn't allow myself any treats and I would only last a few weeks on a healthy lifestyle, then have one bad meal and completely fall off the bandwagon. My treat meal is my way of maintaining balance.

Lettie was unstoppable. Not because she did not have failures or doubts – but because she continued on despite them! Congratulations gorgeous girl, you have a plan and you are succeeding! Keep going!
