How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?

I'm age 40. My health journey began back in the July of 2011 when I weighted 132.7kg. I 'knew' I needed to do something about my health. However, the difference between knowing and 'action' seemed massive. I had a chance meeting with a Chiropractor & Kinesiologist, Dr Ben Maitland who offered me some very non-judgemental words. That was the beginning of my journey. I began working with Ben, weekly to begin and still do consistently. Our focus has always been about health and sustainability for life. It's never been about a diet and Ben has never asked me what I weight. Though along the weight I shed 66kgs and regained my life. I really was existing beforehand...the couch was a great friend of mine! I have gained a wealth of knowledge about how to nourish my body, eat clean, move my body and manage my emotions. Honestly, I have loved pretty much every moment - with the exception of one defining Thursday. Upon reflection that Thursday was significant, however with great support from both Ben and my hubby I continued on, rather than rolling over on the couch, amid my flood of tears and telling my hubby 'That's it - this health thing is too hard, I'm giving up'. He had a pretty firm response to that and it took me a sleepless night to realise I wasn't giving up.

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?

Potato chips were my biggest 'addiction'...I'm not talking just the odd handful, I'm talking packets, family-size packets! A LOT has changed since then. My eating philosophy now is as I call it 'clean eating'. For me that means following a lifestyle of natural foods - we have very little in the way of packets in our pantry these days! In the main things such as fruits, vegies, nuts, seeds, meat, seafood and legumes.

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?

I love watching the tennis and I passionately follow the circuit all year round. I play tennis - both training and fixtures, weekly. I love to run, did a couple of small triathlons recently, enjoy yoga, personal training and a refreshing walk in the outdoors.

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?

I do love to create new 'clean eating' recipes in my kitchen, experimenting with new and different ingredients. They mostly work, and then there are those 'learning experiences' that don't quite work the first time. The family are good taste testers for me, honest too!! I'm absolutely passionate about the tennis...as a child I always played and so did my parents. I love seeing others happy, that always brings me a smile.

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?

Varied opinions...I say it was the chance meeting with Dr Ben Maitland. Ben says I was 'open to receiving and ready'. I do get what he means by that now, but I didn't when he first said it!

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?

Improving my yoga poses. I really do enjoy my yoga and it really has helped me in building my core strength, which was a really weak area of mine. My hubby and I are doing a triathlon together...I'm swimming and running, he is cycling. This is a bigger distance to the smaller ones I've previously done. Continuing to build 'Kylies Courage' which means empowering others to realise we can all lead a life blessed with Health, Happiness & Freedom. Working in partnership with my hubby to take his communications business through it's next growth phase.

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?

Believe in yourself, always. Be patient...In this modern world, we tend to want everything now and health doesn't come overnight or sitting on the couch! Consistency...With any change, you need to do it with consistency. Self-Love...Learn to love yourself from within. I used to see it as selfish and now I realise it's not and it's an essential ingredient in being the very best version of you. Responsibility...Take responsibility for your health. You may engage support of family, friends or professionals which is great but ultimately no one else can do it for you. That was a key turning point in my journey!
