Transformation Tuesday with Hsin

Today's #transformationtuesday is told by Hsin! Hsin not only changed her attitude about healthy eating, she changed her lifestyle to match! Transformation Tuesday with Hsin

How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date? I'm 29, turning 30 this August.

My family and I immigrated to Canada from Cambodia when I was 4. Since my parents were not educated, money and healthy foods were always scarce.

As a child, I was very active and played on all team sports. I stopped playing sports by the time I was 16 at which time, the weight began to pack on.

Between 16 and my mid-20s, I had gained about 5 lbs a year. By the time I was 28, I had reached my maximum weight of almost 150 lbs. I was 5'5'', unhealthy, barely worked out, ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, and newly engaged!

We decided to have a destination wedding so not only did I have to be a wedding dress, I had to be in a bikini in front of our closes friends and family. This was the all motivation I needed. I began watching what I ate, ate more raw/natural foods, exercised daily, stated running again, and began portion control. I had lost 20 lbs for our wedding and another 10 lbs after for a total of 30 lbs in 16 months. It was a long process but I am in the best shape of my entire life.

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then? As a child and young adult money was an issue so I ate a lot fast and convenient foods, Asian and Spanish home cooked meals, junk, junk and more junk!

Now, I've made healthy living a priority and money is no longer an issue.

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching? I play rec league volleyball, court or beach, on a weekly basis.

I watch hockey, football and baseball with my husband but I enjoy watching the Olympics on my own free will.

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile? I enjoy working out, shopping, spending time with friends and family, watching TV but most importantly, my husband and our dog, Stella, always make me smile :)

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change? Our wedding and the thought of having a child in the near future.

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months? My husband and I want to get pregnant this year so it's important to myself to be able to get my pre-pregnancy body back within a year.

Also, my goal is to participate in my first 5k run this summer. I am also planning on running the 5k breast cancer run in October in support of my older sister who is currently battling breast cancer.

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation? Don't give up. It's a long process but the end results are life changing. Every time I thought that I couldn't do it, I think of where I used to be - unhealthy, depressed and self-conscious. Do I want to go back? NO!

The satisfaction of reaching another goal, pound, inch, whatever, is enough motivation for me to continue this life long commitment.
