Welcome Spring And Everyday Super Foods

I get so excited when the seasons change - teaching the kids about the environment around them, how life creates life and transformations begin...Spring is such a special time and the girls especially love seeing the buds and flowers bloom. I'm also loving the food this season, as you know you are what you eat, right? I can vouch that it - improves my mood, energy, focus, skin and metabolism. Here are some foods that will supercharge you this spring. EVERY DAY SUPER FOODS JAMIE OLIVER DANI STEVENS

SPRING SUPER FOODS

WALNUTS – jam packed with tryptophan, an amino acid your body needs to create the feel-great chemical serotonin. They’re also digested slowly, which contributes to mood stability and can help you tolerate stress.

ASPARAGUS – These spears are one of the best veggie sources of folate going around PLUS they are packed with vitamin B that could help keep you out of a slump. Experts say folate is important for the synthesis of the neurotransmitters dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine – all of these are crucial for mood.

LEGUMES – the protein in these babies gives you that immediate “I’m satisfied” message in the hunger centre of your brain. Beans are also one of your best bets if you’re trying to reduce weight. It’s a win/win combo, as your body has to work to break down the bean to get through the fibre, so you’re actually expending energy to digest it.

SALMON – Forget the anti-aging cream – salmon is your wrinkle prevention on your plate! Salmon is rich in a fatty acid called eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), a type of omega-3 that naturally helps block the release of UV-induced enzymes that diminish collagen, causing lines and sagging skin. I’m going to eat salmon, every day of my life! Ha, ha!

STRAWBERRIES – Loaded with antioxidants that also help your skin repair damage caused by environmental factors like pollution and UV rays. Don’t forget, they’re packed with vitamin C (less than a cup gets you your entire 75 mg RDA)— great to use in homemade facials as they contain alpha-hydroxyl, a natural exfoliant.

Norries Headlands Cabarita Dani Stevens SEPTEMBER challenge

Now who's been creative with our new STEP IT UP challenge this month? It's all about increasing our daily steps so I kicked off with this epic walk up Norries Headlands. I reckon I could've kept walking and walking and walking.

Norries Headlands Cabarita Dani Stevens STEPTEMBER challenge

Check out this dish which has been created by my local green grocer when I said I forgot my snack at home. They asked what I wanted and they created what I wished for. That’s what I call a quick and healthy snack for under $5!  Also, this is living proof that if you don’t ask, you don’t know and will never receive. So try it next time you come stuck. The worse thing they will say is ‘no’.
