How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?

I am 24 years old. Mt fitness journey started with health issues relating to my heart and stomach, I now have 2 heart diseases, anaemia and IBS as well as other allergies to just about everything including gold! The doctor telling me I needed to lose a bit of weight because I was slightly over weight was enough to start it all! I found the Ashy Bines Clean Eating program and began to educate myself in 2013, I also found The Healthy Me who has also been a huge inspiration. With these girls knowledge and building knowledge myself I lost 25kgs just eating healthy although very balanced and simply walking and riding an exercise bike! I took up weights about a year later and that has really helped to strengthen and tone however I did put on a lot of muscle!

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?

As a kid I was pretty good, I ate everything on my plate which was mostly veggies with a little meat or fish and everything we ate was fresh and clean, When I was very young we had a garden too and even ate potatoes and corn and things we grew at home that was the best! When I was about 18 and finished school and could choose my own food I made the wrong choices eating takeout food usually 2 or 3 times a day hence the weight gain! I was tired all the time, didnt exercise and felt awful in my own skin. Since that time I have really woken up! I always knew I had to eat my veggies to get strong (like popeye!) But I didnt understand them at the nutritional level. I found Ashy Bines Clean Eating Program and it began to explain alot to me! Since then I have had a huge passion for fitness and most importantly nutrition which is why I not only eat clean healthy food most of the time I also study Nutritional Medicine!

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?

When I was younger I did ballet which I now do again, but as a teenager at high school I hated sport in every sense of the word! Playing it, watching it, the people who played it! I even wrote my own notes to get out of PE, sorry to my high school teachers! BUT now I love hockey, which I play in the winter and I am back into ballet! I love watching both but I think ballet is my thing!

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?

I love nutrition! I pretty much eat, sleep and breathe it now as I am also at uni studying teaching to be a PE teacher which also involves nutrition, as well as my work in Nutritional Medicine. I also love fitness and inspiring people, if someone like me who hated sport so much at 16 could do a 360 and love hockey and ballet and lose 25kgs with multiple health problems anyone can! Fitness and nutrition are some of my passions and I love people lighting up when they have lost a bit of weight or feel so much better or notice their skin clearing up. Im also Vegan so all natural earth food is a passion of mine which I hope to turn into something more soon ;) I love it when people realize that healthy, Vegan food dosent taste bad! As I mentioned before Ballet is another passion of mine that ive fallen back in love with after many years off. I think that ballerinas are athletes, they are so strong and can literally dance for a whole day on their toes! I aspire to be strong just like them!

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?

I think the thing that changed it all for me was when I was trying on some clothes one day and they didn’t fit I cried in the dressing room, pulled myself together and cried once I left the shop. It was only a size 14 top but being that big was devastating to me as I know its unhealthy for my body, it might work for other ladies but for someone with health problems who is quite short it wasn’t a healthy weight for me. That’s when I found Ashy Bines and the Healthy Me and changed my life back in 2013.

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?

In the next 12 months I hope to build my personal training business up so I can help others achieve their goals just like I did, I am working on some more training myself so I can teach my own Barre style class which I hope to pull together in a few months and Id love to work really hard on my ballet so im not only strong but fluid as well.

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?

I think the most important thing is to not do it on your own, grab a friend for support or your family. Let people know exactly what you are doing and why, it keeps you accountable. Eat healthy clean foods most of the time and allow yourself a treat each week that way you will work hard all week. I would often make the mistake of eating clean 100% for weeks on end and binge a bit for a few weeks which is why it took 2 years to lose that weight. Another thing that if I had of known then what I know now is get some professional help, people might think this is expensive but one or two sessions with a PT and nutritionist can really set you up with knowledge! If you can stay with them because they will keep you on track, This was the main reason I kept falling off because I didn’t have any help and I didn’t go to the gym, It’s not a necessity to go to the gym you can still get a great work out at home but having someone who knows the right stuff is really what you need! I also believe that the last few kilos came of easier than the first even though the first 10 just dropped from eating right because of my Vegan diet, I don’t have any processed foods, no meat or cheese or dairy, nutrition is the biggest part of my journey. Also move your body everyday even if it’s a walk because you still need to burn the energy you put into your body. And as everyone always tells you drink water! I only drink water after my breakfast coffee and have about a cup of almond milk with my protein shake, but water is the most important!
