Transformation Tuesday with Patrice
This week's very special Transformation Tuesday is exclusive to Fernwood Fitness as I take part of their revolutionary #28daybreakthru #fernwoodangels program. We say hi to Patrice who has been a member of Fernwood Ballarat gym for the past ten months and is looking and feeling fabulous!
How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date? I am 54 year old and overweight for approx 15 years. After 3 years of trying, my daughter finally won the battle and I joined Fernwood. What finally prompted me, was my daughter became engaged and i thought, i want to look my best for her wedding. I took up the Foxy challenge earlier this year which helped enormously with the food coaching and fitness sessions. I lost 10kgs in the 12 week challenge and have lost 15kgs since joining fernwood over the past 10 months. I am fitter, healthier, lighter and this makes for a happier and more confident ME!
What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then? I was brought up with the mundane meat and veg dinners and i feel this lead to me being an unadventurous cook. Foxy recipes were given to to use and i now have found a new love for cooking due to these recipes being quick and easy to cook and being surprisingly tasty. Now i cook a wider varietty of vegetables, replace rice and pasta with couscous or quinoa and replace potato with sweet potato. I used to love snacking on chocolate or crisps but my common snack now is nuts.
Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching? I no longer play sport but love spending my mornings at the gym. I vary my group classes to try to work all muscle groups. I enjoy watching several sports on television, particularly horse events.
What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile? My interests are travel, shopping, horse racing and reading. My passion is being active at the gym. My family are the most important interest and passion and my husband and daughter always give me a reason to smile. I am known for always having a smile on my face.
What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change? My daughter's upcoming marriage gave me the much needed push to change, as I have always hated seeing myself in the mirror or in photos. My health was also deteriorating and I felt like life was slipping away. I needed to do something to change this before it was too late.
What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months? My journey is still continuing but I will be satisfied with any body improvements I can manage. My goal is to at least retain my present weight for my daughter's wedding but also, to remain fit and healthy or even fitter and leaner over the next year and beyond.
What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation? The secret to success is: Drink plenty of water and remember, 80% is your food choices, 20% is exercise, (as my daughter always said to me and now I am a believer). You have to be focused and have the strength to say I CAN, and never say I CAN'T. It does get easier as each week passes and you will be so thankful for it. There is no better reward to YOU!
