Transformation Tuesday with Jo

Jo tells us about her change from yo-yo diets to a happier, healthier life! Jo's amazing transformation

How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date? 41 years old. My health and fitness had lasted since my teens. I was a classic yoyo dieter for a long time, I can't remember being any other way. About 5 years ago I'd finally had enough and decided to do something about it properly. I took part in Fernwood’s 12 Week Foxy Challenge and have never looked back. I had a baby 18 months ago and Fernwood’s 28 Day Breakthru program has helped me get my body back.

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then? I'd always eat well as a child but we didn't have much money so the variety was minimal, there was always something healthy on the table though. I guess I started to eat badly when I started to warn my own money as had control of what I bought. I ate a lot if junk, takeaway, drank too much alcohol didn't eat regularly

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching? I played a lot of sports in school, captain of the netball team, played on the hockey team, swam for my school and also did gymnastics. These days I am a qualified personal trainer and spin instructor, spin is my passion, I love the energy, the way you feel after a class is like no other exercise in my opinion and the pure mania of it!!! It's the best feeling

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile? I love to read, I love to go out for dinner and my husband and I traveled a lot before having our daughter 18 months ago. Now books and meals out are scarce but my most favourite thing is being with my husband and my daughter. My other passion is the gym....it's where I can just go into my own head and be a machine for an hour or so. Spin is my love....I never listen to music without thinking 'could I use this?

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change? I was so sick of worrying about what I ate and how I looked and so I figured if I did things the right way food wise then the rest would follow with some good exercise

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months? I aim to maintain what I've learned from the 28 Day Breakthru. I'd like to improve as far as finding time for myself is concerned but mostly I'd love to just be as happy as I am now, life is great

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation? Oh there are so many!! I'd definitely say that if you seem to find it hard to lose weight keep a food diary, I always thought I ate well until the challenge, then I was horrified at how much I was overeating. If there is help available take it, the people giving it know what they're talking about. Find time for yourself...it's so important, I had my baby at 40 years old and was quite set in my ways, it was a much bigger change than I could have possibly imagined and I missed my 'me time' so much, I felt infinitely better when I made time for me. Find what makes you feel good then find time to do it, you'll never regret it.

Extremely proud of Jo and all her hard work!
