So why have I been sharing all these delicious beef recipes with you lately? Well you know I love my good quality food and when it comes to good quality and nutrient packed – it doesn’t get much better than beef! Here are some facts on the superfood beef:
- When it comes to dietary iron, quality is more important than quantity. “Good quality” iron, called ‘haem iron’ found in meat, fish and poultry is well absorbed by the body whereas less iron is absorbed from plant foods which are lacking in haem iron. - Beef has four times as much iron than chicken and fish and is the best source of absorbable iron in the Australian diet. - The redder the meat, the higher the iron content. Hence, red meat is the best source of iron and the Australian Dietary Guidelines recommend red meat such as beef three to four time a week (455g in total) to meet iron and zinc requirements.
Why do I feel so much better on beef? Not only does it taste yummy, but as a Mum of 4 young kids and managing a household of 6 peeps, it gives me that iron kick and protein to keep my body functioning so I can continue creating epic recipes for you and your family to make and enjoy!
